Every year the Pantone Color Insitute
creates a palette of 10 trendy hues and declares a particular color “Color of
the Year”. This color will become the bread and butter of design as it will
greet you from every magazine cover, every lookbook and interior.
2016 tried to break color and gender
stereotypes. Despite the tradition to choose one shade, Pantone experts
announced two – Rose Quartz and Serenity. Girls are no longer afraid of pink
lipstick, and baby blue color combinations settled down not only in boys'
bedrooms, but also in kitchens and living rooms.
2017 prepared the asparagus, broccoli,
olives and lemons. The color of the year is Greenery – an energetic hue,
symbolizing the unity with nature. It is difficult to find something more
natural in color. It's like a breath of fresh air that is full of ideas and
inspiration.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive
director of the Pantone Color Institute, this color is connected with the
re-words – regenerate, refresh, revitalise, renew. Every spring we enter a new
cycle and new seedlings emerge the soil. This is something that you definitely look
forward to. Even though we associate the color with nature, it is also closely
related to the technology, innovation and novelty.
There is a practice of forest bathing in
Japan. The Japanese believe that the most effective way to recover from stress
is to walk in a forest. On the one hand, finding a forest in a big city seems
to be mission impossible, but why not building it around us. Green things give
you strength, help to recover and bring you close to nature.
Green is believed to be pleasing the human eye, because it represents a nature palette. It does not mean that everything in the interior must be green. Bring the color in dots.
In January 2017, Pantone teamed up with
Airbnb to transform a house in London into an “indoor-outdoor oasis, in tribute
to its color of the year.
The front door features a sample of the
Pantone palette, while the interior is filled with trees, plants and flowers.
A garden bedroom with mown lawn, a tented nook for children, an herb garden kitchen.
The house interacts with its guests. It
speaks to them with sounds of nature – a pleasant music in the background. The
house smells of herbs, and you can drink tea with leaves picked from a
hydroponics installation.
"Greenery is a warm and zesty
yellow-green shade that speaks to our desire to disconnect, replenish and
energize, it seemed a natural extension for us to partner with Аirbnb for the
very first time to bring the pantone color of the year 2017 to life", –
commented on a new project in Pantone.
