    Kukes Airport

How can an airport be both historical and cultural? Located in Kukes, near Kosovo border, this airport was birthed as a result of the Kosovo war. The war resulted in thousands of refugees fleeing their home to come to Albania to avoid the fighting. Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had decided to send aid to refugees caught in the conflict, one such aid resulted in this airport. We were responsible for landscape design and the entrance hall. We were also responsible for the memorial dedicated to the refugees and Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Our artistic touch that can be found all over the airport are the walking canes, used to serve as a reminder of the road that the Kosovars had traveled as they fled their homes. These details add an overall feeling of cultural history to the structure and architecture of the airport.
